| | Woowee! It's been forever lightyears since I updated this! Well, there's some ground to cover, so let's get started.
First off, there's a meeting this Wednesday, November 16, and the
format of the club is going to be slightly changed. There's going
to be the usual talk about stuff going on (and IS there!), but
afterwards, instead of banting for like twenty minutes like we normally
do at lunch, I'm going to do a short presentation about sweatshops and
try to bring all of us up to speed about what's going on in the
world. OK!
Two things going on right now :
1) Sometime this week the recycling program is going to
double/triple in size (it'll take a few days to see). Glisson
will probably be covering the overhead on this and I'll actually make
the new bins as it'll be easy. But, I'm going to start needing
help on emptying, and bagging, the bottles, and taking them to
show. If anyone is interested in this I'll give you a crash
course on it. Typically it just takes around 30-45 minutes
afterschool on Friday afternoon.
2) Main hall display. Originally this was going to be an
anti-sweatshop display targeting specific corporations and was going to
be in the main hallway replacing the cheerleading display that hasn't
been updated in a year. At this poin't I've decided to change the
display to target just coke, for complicated reasons I'll tell everyone
at the meeting. If you are an avid drinker of coke, I suggest you
check out the whole story at Killer Coke website. Not sure how long it will take to make it, but I'm guessing around a month or so.
3) This is an idea I've been tossing around for a while and would
like some feedback on. How about a campaign to deface the sexist,
bigoted writing on all the bathroom walls at school? Not sure
exactly what to put over it, but it would be a great way to get a lot
of people involved in doing something that 100% of the school
population would see. Maybe it wouldn't last more than a week
before our defacement gets defaced, but it'll send a message about what
we're about!
